Dr. Pedro Aspe
Dr. Pedro Aspe is Co-Chairman of Evercore Partners (NYSE Symbol EVR), a leading investment bank boutique in the USA. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Protego, a consulting and advisory firm headquartered in Mexico City that he founded in 1996. Since 1996 Protego has advised in more than 200 transactions, including private equity placements, mergers & acquisitions, project financing and municipal bonds. In 2006, Protego combined with Evercore Partners, based in New York.
Dr. Aspe is a highly respected Mexican Economist and has been the former Chairman of the Economics Department and is currently a professor of Economics at Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and has held a number of positions with the Mexican government: Minister of Finance (1988 – 1994) in the Cabinet of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, where he successfully renegotiated foreign debt, gave autonomy to the Central Bank and promoted a controversial privatization plan; was founder and President of INEGI (National Bureau of Statistics) and was Secretary of Budget and Secretary of the Treasury of Mexico.
Dr. Aspe is a Principal, Member of the Investment Committee and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Discovery Americas I.L.P. Mr. Aspe serves as a Director of a number of public companies, including Televisa and the McGraw Hill Companies and its subsidiary Standard & Poors. Mr. Aspe is a member of the Board of the Carnegie Foundation, the Advisory Board of Stanford University’s Institute of International Studies and the Visiting Committee of the Department of Economics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Mr. Aspe also currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Marvin & Palmer and is Chairman of the Advisory Board of MG Capital, in Monterrey, Mexico and Endeavor (Mexico). He is on the Board of the Institute of the Americas and the Advisory Board of AIG and is a Member of Partido Revolucionario Institucional. Dr. Aspe is the Chairman of the Board of Volaris Airlines (volaris.com.mx) whose investors include Carlos Slim and Emilio Azcarraga.
Mr. Aspe received a B.A. in Economics from the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
