Senator Bob Kerrey

Senator Bob Kerrey has been President of The New School University in New York  City since he retired from the United States Senate in 2001. He was elected as a  Democrat to the United States Senate in 1988 and was reelected in 1994. In 1991  Kerrey was a candidate for the 1992 Democratic Nomination for President. His  distinguished Senate career included a term as Chairman of the Democratic  Senatorial Campaign Committee one of the top leadership positions in the U.S.  Senate.

Senator Kerrey was elected Governor of Nebraska in 1983 and left in 1987 to run for  the Senate. From 1972 thru 1982 he operated a chain of successful restaurants and fitness centers. He served in the United States Navy as a SEAL in a Special Forces Unit from 1966 thru 1969. He was wounded in Vietnam and awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life”.

Senator Kerrey graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1966. He has received numerous awards and Honorary Degrees and is a Member of several important Boards and Commissions including the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States (9-11 Commission) 2003-2004. He has written books and numerous articles and continues to be an active advocate for important issues affecting our country.
