Willy A. Bermello

Willy A. Bermello, AIA, AICP is an Investor/Partner in the Company and President and CEO of BAP Development, Inc., a real estate development company specializing in mixed-use urban in-fill projects throughout South Florida. Founded in 1998, BAP has over1, 200 luxury residential units in South Florida; and investments in excess of $750 million. Mr. Bermello is also Chairman, CEO and Founder of Bermello, Ajamil & Partners Inc. (B&A), a leading South Florida architecture and engineering firm ranked by Inc. 500 among the fastest growing private companies in the United States. He is a Florida registered architect with more than 30 years of experience in international practice. He holds Masters degrees in architecture and planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor in Architecture from the University of Florida where he graduated magna cum laude and as AIA Student Silver Medallist. Mr. Bermello is the recipient of numerous architecture and urban design awards, among them the "Excellence in Architecture" award from the Florida Association of AIA, "Architect of the Year" award from the Latin Builders Association, the "Gold Medal in Architecture" from the Association of Cuban Architects, the 1992 Civil Rights Volunteer Leadership Award, and the 1992 "Hillard T. Smith Silver Medal and Community Service Award" from the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Bermello is an active member of the South Florida community. He has been appointed by three Governors and other elected officials to numerous state commissions, local advisory boards and leadership positions in civic organizations. He served over nine years as Chairman of the City of Miami'sUrban Development Review Board; and is a Past President of the Latin Builders Association. Mr. Bermello is also a member of the Orange Bowl Committee; a past President of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana; a past President of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce; and Founder and past President of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. Mr. Bermello is on the Board of Directors at Colonial Bank of South Florida. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the South Florida Gang Outreach; and the University of Florida Foundation.

Major Civic Accomplishments * 2003 - Mr. Bermello received the Alumni Hall of Fame Award from Miami-Dade College * 2000 - Mr. Bermello was recognized with the Humanitarian Award from the American Jewish Committee * 1997 - Mr. Bermello was recognized with award of the Civil Rights Advocacy Award at the Civil Rights Conference, Tampa, Florida * 1992 - Mr. Bermello became the first Hispanic and the first Republican to Chair the Florida Commission on Human Relations * 1992 - Mr. Bermello was elected as the Founding President of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. * 1988 - Mr. Bermello became the first Cuban American to be elected President of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. * 1987 - Mr. Bermello founded the Miracle Mile Fest, a project of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. * 1984 - Mr. Bermello spearheaded a 5-year effort which culminated in the creation of the Latin Quarter District.
